The Hardy Plant Society aims to provide its members with information about hardy herbaceous plants, both well-known and rare and tries to ensure, through its conservation work that plants under threat remain in cultivation and through the seed exchange, have the widest distribution.

The Conservation Scheme aims to identify and preserve at least some of the plants in danger of being lost. Volunteer members of the scheme grow the plants in a variety of locations around the UK and report back on their progress. They also propagate these plants and circulate them, and the Conservation Scheme is open to any member as an individual or as part of a local group.

The Seed Distribution Scheme offers members a chance to donate seeds from plants in their own gardens and receive seeds from others. A list of available seeds is prepared and circulated each autumn to members, who can obtain seeds from familiar favourites and rare and hard-to-find plants.

There are a number of Specialist Groups, focusing on a particular group of plants or type of growing conditions and you may find a group that shares your particular interest, including Peonies, Hardy Geraniums, or Shade and Woodland Plants.
